Erin Energy Corporation operated as an independent firm specializing in the exploration and extraction of energy resources, primarily focusing on acquiring and developing assets across the African continent. Its portfolio included five distinct licenses, collectively covering roughly 6,000 square kilometers in the offshore areas of Nigeria, Ghana, and The Gambia. The company, originally named CAMAC Energy Inc., rebranded to Erin Energy Corporation in April 2015. Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, it functioned as a subsidiary of CAMAC Energy Holdings Limited. Having filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on April 25, 2018, its voluntary reorganization petition was later converted to Chapter 7 on July 13, 2018.
