Create and manage Auto Buys

Auto Buys automatically update a position in Stock Events on a recurring schedule. They simulate purchases inside the selected portfolio or watchlist. They do not place orders with a broker or move real money.

To find Auto Buys, select the portfolio or watchlist you want to update, open the stock or ETF, and select the large position button that shows your share count or Enter Your Shares. On the position screen, select the repeat icon in the top-right corner.

Before you use Auto Buys

  • Each Auto Buy belongs to one asset and one portfolio or watchlist.
  • Select an individual portfolio before opening the position. Auto Buys are not available from the Combined View.
  • The repeat icon is not shown for positions in brokerage-synced portfolios.
  • In Simple mode, the position must already have more than zero shares before an Auto Buy can update it.

Create an Auto Buy

  1. Open Holdings and select the portfolio or watchlist you want to update.
  2. Select the stock or ETF.
  3. Select the large position button that shows your current share count or Enter Your Shares.
  4. Select the repeat icon in the top-right corner. This opens Auto Buys.
  5. Select Add.
  6. Enter the purchase value and select Amount or Shares.
    • Amount uses the asset’s trading currency and calculates the number of shares from the latest available closing price before the scheduled date.
    • Shares uses the share quantity you enter.
  7. Turn on Only whole shares if the calculated quantity should be rounded down to a whole number. If the amount is lower than the price of one share, this can result in zero shares being added.
  8. Select Repeat and choose Daily, Weekly, Bi-Weekly, Monthly, Bi-Monthly, or Yearly.
  9. Complete the schedule details:
    • Weekly and Bi-Weekly schedules require a Weekday.
    • Monthly and Bi-Monthly schedules require a Day of Month.
    • Yearly schedules require a month and Day of Month.
  10. Select a Start Date. For Bi-Weekly and Bi-Monthly schedules, this date determines the alternating week or month. Start Date does not delay Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly schedules.
  11. Select Save.

You can select Add again to create more than one Auto Buy for the same asset and portfolio.

How Auto Buys update your position

  • Simple mode: Stock Events increases the saved share count. If the position has an average cost, it recalculates that value using the latest available closing price before the scheduled date.
  • Transactions mode: Stock Events adds a buy transaction dated on the scheduled day and uses the latest available closing price before that day.

Auto Buys update only the portfolio data stored in Stock Events. They do not submit a trade to a brokerage.

Edit an Auto Buy

  1. Return to the position screen and select the repeat icon.
  2. On Auto Buys, select the schedule you want to change. Each row shows its amount or share quantity and frequency.
  3. Change the amount, mode, whole-share option, frequency, schedule details, or Start Date.
  4. Select Save.

Editing a schedule changes future automatic updates. It does not alter or reverse position changes or transactions that were already created.

Delete an Auto Buy

  1. Open Auto Buys and select the schedule.
  2. Select the trash icon in the top-right corner.
  3. On Are you sure?, select CONTINUE.

Deleting an Auto Buy stops future automatic updates. Previously applied share changes and generated transactions remain in the portfolio.
