Seritage Growth Properties functions as a publicly traded Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) that independently manages its operations and extensive property holdings. Its portfolio includes 166 fully owned assets and an interest in 29 unconsolidated properties, collectively spanning roughly 30.4 million square feet throughout 44 states and Puerto Rico. The company was established in July 2015 with the initial purpose of extracting the inherent real estate value from a high-quality retail portfolio it acquired from Sears Holdings.
