This ETF (DTAN) is designed to invest in companies whose intrinsic value is significantly bolstered by intangible assets. The fund's analytical framework for these non-physical assets centers on four primary dimensions: human capital, brand equity, intellectual property, and network effects. These intangible elements are evidenced through various sources, such as narratives found in corporate filings, official patent and trademark grants, employee performance reviews, and social media engagement. To incorporate these diverse data points into its investment strategy, the advisor utilizes advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques in conjunction with traditional quantitative investment methodologies. Additionally, the estimated worth of a company's physical assets – effectively serving as a supplementary fifth pillar – is also considered when constructing the portfolio. The selection process begins by screening all publicly traded companies located outside the United States. From this extensive pool, a minimum of 50 securities are ultimately chosen for inclusion in the final portfolio, which may comprise both common stocks and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs).
