The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is a federally owned corporation that operates the nation's largest public power system, serving approximately 10 million people across parts of seven southeastern states. TVA primarily sells wholesale power to 153 local power companies and also serves large industrial and federal customers directly. Beyond power generation from a diverse mix of nuclear, gas, coal, and hydro sources, TVA also manages the Tennessee River system for flood control, navigation, and land management, receiving no taxpayer funding for its operations.
