Whitehaven Coal Limited is an Australian enterprise focused on the development and operation of coal extraction sites located within New South Wales and Queensland. Its operations are organized into three primary divisions: open-cut mining, subterranean mining, and the merchandising and mixing of coal. The company is a producer of both metallurgical (coking) and thermal (steam) coal varieties. It currently manages four active mines in New South Wales' Gunnedah Coal Basin, specifically three open-pit facilities and one underground mine. Whitehaven's coal output is sold to an international clientele, reaching countries such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India, Malaysia, New Caledonia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and numerous European markets. The company was founded in 1999 and its corporate headquarters are situated in Sydney, Australia.
