while T cut their dividend, it was purposeful. it was to pay down debt& reinvest into the company. the result: T has about a 42% free cash flow payout ratio (with rising free cashflow), substantially less debt & a higher more sustainable yield (with lower free cash flow payout ratio) than VZ while basically being the exact same company

AT&T has less debt because they spun off a major business. Not saying it wasn’t wrong, just that your narrative is incomplete.

I'm aware of that. Im referring to them having cut the dividend under the promise of reducing the remaining debt.
