This fund strives for substantial long-term appreciation in capital. It generally commits at least 80% of its net holdings to stocks of U.S. mid-sized companies. Management selects these firms based on their belief that they offer superior potential for earnings expansion. The fund's adviser typically defines mid-capitalization companies as those whose market value, at the time of purchase, is similar to the businesses included in the Russell Midcap® Growth Index. While its primary focus is common stock, the fund also has the flexibility to invest in preferred shares, convertible securities, and other types of equity instruments.
