Gelesis Holdings, Inc. operated as a commercial-stage biotherapeutics company, concentrating on the development of biomimetic solutions. Its core mission revolved around addressing the root causes of obesity and various chronic gastrointestinal ailments. Among its offerings was PLENITY, an orally administered, non-stimulant, and non-systemic product designed to assist with weight management. The company's pipeline also included several other promising developments: GS200, targeting weight reduction for individuals with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes; and GS500, intended for the treatment of functional constipation. Furthermore, Gelesis had a pre-clinical stage product, GS300, in development for conditions such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Founded in Boston, Massachusetts, in 2006, the company established its headquarters there. Regrettably, on October 30, 2023, Gelesis Holdings, Inc., alongside its affiliates, formally initiated voluntary Chapter 7 liquidation proceedings in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.
