The fund's core objective is to generate substantial current income, balanced with a goal of long-term capital appreciation. It typically allocates a minimum of 80% of its total assets to common stocks. Its investments are predominantly in equities of large-capitalization companies, specifically those with market valuations exceeding $2 billion. A crucial selection criterion is that every equity holding must either currently pay a dividend or be projected to initiate dividend payments within the subsequent twelve months. Furthermore, the fund has the flexibility to commit up to 20% of its net assets to securities issued by foreign entities or those denominated in non-U.S. dollar currencies.
