NorthPoint Communications Group, Inc. specialized in offering rapid network and data transmission services. These services were designed to empower internet service providers, broadband data providers, and both local and long-distance telephone companies in fulfilling the connectivity demands of small and medium-sized enterprises, home office professionals, and remote workers. Established in 1997 and headquartered in Emeryville, California, the company had previously operated as a subsidiary of AT&T Corp. However, in January 2001, NorthPoint sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection through the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. This Chapter 11 filing was subsequently converted to a Chapter 7 liquidation on June 12, 2001, by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California, San Francisco Division.
