VERBUND AG, along with its various subsidiaries, is actively involved in the generation, commercial exchange, and supply of electrical energy. Its customer base is diverse, encompassing energy exchanges, independent traders, other electricity utilities, industrial enterprises, residential consumers, and commercial clients, operating both domestically within Austria and across international markets. The company's operations are structured into distinct segments: Hydro, New Renewables, Sales, Grid, and an 'All Other' category. As of December 31, 2021, VERBUND boasted substantial installed capacity, including 8,307 megawatts (MW) from hydropower facilities, 418 MW from wind farms, 3 MW from solar installations, and 1,013 MW from thermal power plants. Furthermore, VERBUND AG manages Austria's critical electricity transmission network. Its portfolio also extends to the gas sector, where it oversees long-distance gas pipelines and a gas distribution network, participates in the trading and sale of natural gas, and delivers various ancillary energy services. Founded in 1947, the enterprise was initially known as Österreichische Elektrizitätswirtschafts- Aktiengesellschaft before adopting its current name, VERBUND AG, in 2010.
